Batteries power everything from cell phones to medical equipment. All batteries contain heavy metals and can contaminate the environment if improperly disposed. Lead-acid automotive batteries , and rechargeable batteries generated at UF , are considered hazardous waste and must be managed through EH&S at (352) 392-8400 .

Those who receive these materials from UF must be qualified recyclers/de-manufacturers or purchasers that can demonstrate the proper use or recycling of each unit.


The Facilities Services Recycling and Solid Waste Management Office manages the collection and disposal of all solid waste from University of Florida operations.
